Fun Run / Snacks/ Volunteers

Dear Axolotl Families,

Welcome to the second week of school. Today we will be talking about gifts. What is your child’s unique GIFT to the world. Later, we will aso be making gifts for the school year and beyond. If you have not discussed the following with your child please plan to have a brief conversation(s) about the following:

  1. What is unique and special about you?

  2. What do you really want to learn or get better at during this school year?

  3. What do you think you might want to be when you grow up?

    What I Am!

Who are you ? What are you ? Identity is a huge deal for most children in America. Whoever you are, you should be proud !

We recently read this book and are working on making our own personal statements:

Our first project of the year
Our first project of the year

Volunteers:

We LOVE have visitors or volunteers in our classroom. You could chaperone, come read to children, or teach a skill. In any case, you will need fill out a background check. Please call the main office for more details

If you are interested, please let me know via text or email. Soon there will be a google doc to sign up on.

Snack Donation Request

Thank you for all of you who have been able to make snack donations. The apple sauce, granola bars, crackers, popcorn and fruit snacks have all been a hit! Our supply is running low. Please send a healthy snack with your child if you are able. We will also take fresh fruit- like cuties or apples.

If you are interested in donating snack for a week, please let me know via text or email. Soon there will be a google doc to sign up on.

Snack Donations:

Our daily lunch period is 11:25 - 11:50am every morning. By 3pm , most students benefit from eating a snack. Please send a healthy snack for your child. Want to donate some snacks? Some members of our class are allergic to wheat, milk, or nuts. So it is helpful to have SOME of our snack options be free of wheat, milk, or tree nuts. We are a peanut free classroom.

We have 25 students and we love:

  • fresh apples,

  • bananas,

  • fruit snacks or

  • anything individually wrapped.

  • meat sticks

  • snack bars

  • No chips, please.

Office Hours:

I am generally available to talk most days between 8am and 9am and 11:30am - 1pm. My time after school is quite limited. My goal is to partner with you in the growth and development of your child so they can be the best version of themselves. My personal cell phone is 612-254-3586. It is also at the bottom of every email that I send.

E-mail: works best for longer discussions. I will generally reply within 24 hours and will call you back.

Text: This is best for last minute, time sensitive information. Dismissal is at 3:55pm everyday. So please send me any dismissal changes asap and not after 2pm on the day of, if possible.

I am looking forward to meeting and getting to work with all the families in my classroom. If it’s your first year as a parent of an Axolotl, I will be reaching out to you to have a goal setting session.

The First Annual Obama Fun Run fundraiser starts today! Our class can win some fun things along the way. The Fun Run is our biggest fundraiser of the year and it helps support the Obama Family and Staff Organization's initiatives. The fundraiser ends in a celebration on Friday, October 10th. We hope you consider a donation and that you find ways to engage your friends, family, and community. If you donate on Friday, September 12th - you are entered to win a $50 French Hen Cafe GIFT CARD! Happy fundraising! Donate here:  https://bit.ly/obamalowerelementary

The intent of the Family Directory is to help families connect and meet each other. Hopefully the directory will make it easier to have play dates, send birthday invitations and connect more quickly. If you wish to have your information in the directory, please fill out this form for each child in your home. The directory will be available for all families at Obama Montessori Elementary. Questions? Email Mandy at amanda.perna@spps.org
